When using Aggregated Review Forms in our plugin, customers are given a few options for how their name is displayed alongside their reviews. One of these options is to post a review anonymously.
We understand that some store owners would prefer to show only real names next to reviews in order to boost authenticity and trust. However, it's important to remember that privacy regulations like the GDPR give individuals the right to control how their personal data is shared online.
Customers have the right to decide whether their name appears with a review or not. This means the 'Anonymous' option is required to ensure compliance with privacy laws and to respect the preferences of your customers.
Therefore, the 'Anonymous' option cannot be removed from Aggregated Review Forms — and that’s by design. It helps create a trustworthy, privacy-respecting environment where customers feel safe sharing their experiences.
Can I rename the 'Anonymous' label to 'Buyer' or something else?
While the 'Anonymous' option cannot be removed, the Pro version of our plugin includes a feature that allows you to change the label shown to customers. For example, instead of "Anonymous," you can display a more neutral or professional term like "Customer," "Buyer," or any wording that fits your store’s tone.
This gives you greater flexibility in how reviews appear while still respecting customer privacy and legal requirements.
To rename the 'Anonymous' option:
- Go to the advanced review form editor
- Look for the option labeled “Anonymous display name”
- Enter your preferred wording and save the changes
This way, your reviews can still maintain a polished and consistent appearance, even if customers choose not to display their real names.
